September is the month we celebrate Father’s Day, a day we get to show our appreciation for Fathers and Father figures present in our lives.
Sourced from timeanddate.com, the idea of a special day to honour Fathers and celebrate Fatherhood was introduced from the United States. A woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother's Day celebrations and planned a day to honour Fathers early in the 20th century. The first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910. Father’s Day has become increasingly popular throughout Australia and other parts of the world over the years.
While many Fathers have enjoyed their special day for years, there are many local residents who are celebrating their very first Father’s Day, like Oran Park resident Nick Racca who welcomed his baby boy Romeo with his wife in December.
